St. Vincent Health

Looking toward the future, St. Vincent General Hospital District has embraced the concept of a health campus where specialists, primary care, Lake County Public Health Agency, and other health-related offices reside in the old hospital building and synergistically complement services in the adjacent, new hospital facility.

Meet Jeremiah Grantham – NRP, Ambulance Services Director

Paramedic Jeremiah Grantham leads the team prepared to respond to 911 calls and emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in the 400-square-mile Lake County service area.
He is uniquely qualified to run Ambulances Services, with his commitment to patient-centered care, wilderness skills, and Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) accreditation—the highest level of certification available to a paramedic.
Jeremiah is accomplished in advanced life support, can administer a range of medications and can perform advanced electrical and invasive surgical interventions. His rigorous training included more than 1,800 hours of clinical education focused on acute emergency stabilization and prehospital care.
He was born and raised in Massachusetts, but Jeremiah clearly belongs in the mountains of Colorado. He came to Leadville in 2007 for the Ski Area Operations program at Colorado Mountain College and concurrently worked as a ski patroller at Ski Cooper. There, he discovered his calling for emergency medicine. He became an EMT then went to paramedic school at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado.
“For Paramedics and EMTs, patient care comes first in everything we do. We discuss it, train for it, review it, and change it based on peer-reviewed studies,” says Jeremiah. “Sometimes patient care involves saving a life with our skills and training. Other times it’s holding the hand of a person who just needs to talk and know that someone is there for them.”
Jeremiah takes a great deal of pride and has an intrinsic sense of duty to the St. Vincent Health organization, which has one of the only ambulance services in the nation whose work extends into the emergency room.
“We have a very unique system here where we not only run medical calls in the field, but also work in the ER right alongside the nurses and doctors,” says Jeremiah. “There is an honest sense of team and community. I have the incredible opportunity to shape how our ambulance service and hospital will change and grow, and I’m very happy to be a part of that evolution.”
After emergency medicine, Jeremiah’s next passion is skiing and other alpine recreation including hiking, biking and rock climbing. He’s also father to fur babies Rose and Abbie, who regularly accompany him in his leisure-time outdoor adventures.
