Kia Tamaki Harrold is a certified family nurse practitioner. She earned her advanced degree and training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. As a nurse practitioner, Kia is an advanced practice clinician and one of the team of primary care providers at Rocky Mountain Family Health Center.
A native of Colorado, Kia returns to the state after eight years of practice in rural northern New Mexico. Part of her personal mission is to improve the lives of people who live in rural areas by increasing access and reducing barriers to healthcare. “It’s essential to provide accessible and affordable services at the community level,” says Kia.
What’s her patient care philosophy? “I chose the nurse practitioner profession out of a desire to promote equity and equality through increased access to healthcare. I tailor my practice to meet the specific needs of the people I serve,” she says. “In addition to primary care, chronic disease prevention and management are an area of experience and interest for me. Other specialized services include nutrition, wellness education and treatment of addiction disorders. I believe in meeting people where they are, without judgment and with respect.”
When Kia isn’t treating patients, you will likely find her exploring the great outdoors, hiking and camping with her partner and two dogs.
